With the original 1997 Maybach, Mercedes admitted they didn’t hit the mark they were hoping for, which was being a true competitor for the Rolls Royce Phantom. The car was huge and luxurious, yes, but it lacked class and sophistication. The brand closed down in 2011 and Mercedes used the name Maybach solely for their top level Mercedes S class, naming it the Mercedes Benz 600 Maybach. Again, luxurious indeed, but for the cynics amongst us, it wasn’t more than an S-class with a Maybach label on it. So, Mercedes must have thought, how can we re-envision the Maybach brand? Well, they might have pulled it off, because their new Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet looks absolutely spectacular.

It looks like the Thunderbirds, the Jetsons, a Riva speedboat and ‘Doc’ from ‘Back to the Future’ sat down and blended their wildest fantasies together in one big futuristic vehicle. It even seems to have a flux capacitor in the centre console! And they did not bother to think that a car must fit in a regular parking space, because, the Vision Maybach is big, and we mean, very big. From front to end the Maybach is 5,99 meters. In comparison, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class 65 AMG Long wheelbase is 5,29 meters (!).

But will the thing move a bit? Well yes, Car and Driver found out the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is:

“Powered by a 738-hp fully electric powertrain, and is said to be able to travel more than 200 miles on a charge. A quick-charging system can add 60 miles of range in five minutes, the company said. There are four electric motors, one for each wheel, allowing for all-wheel drive and torque-vectoring functionality. Performance claims include zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds and a top speed governed at 155 mph.”

So, how does this behemoth look like on the open road? Check out the video from Car TV and see for yourself. And then, pray Mercedes will let their vision come through.
