After Michael Fassbender’s version of Assassin’s Creed, we all gave up hope and concluded that there will never be a successful movie adaptation of a video game. Doom was horrible, the Resident Evil Series even worse. Street Fighter with Jean Claude Van Damme was cool if you were a boy below the age of twelve. Maybe the first Mortal Kombat movie came close, but as with many action movies, it did not age well. And finally its sequel, Mortal Kombat Annihilation is maybe the worst movie ever made (seriously, go see it!).

Hollywood also attempted to bring the beloved Tomb Raider games to the big screen. Lara Croft was portrayed by Angelina Jolie and two movies were the result. The first one was not that bad but the second one was. Overall, the movies did not make an impression, and both did surely not reach the epic level of the current video games. With Rise of the Tomb Raider, the series earned its place among one of the best video game franchises of all time, with Lara being an absolute smart, emotional and fearless badass, a full fletched tomb raider.

But still, us moviegoers are optimists and will never give up. And fortunately, neither does Hollywood, for they made another one!

This time it has Oscar winner and Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander, and the trailer promises the movie to be a true Indiana Jones-style adventure. Now one can only hope that it will be like the fun Indy’s and not like Crystal Skull. Fingers crossed.
