Elon Musk is our generation’s real-life Tony Stark, he’s our billionaire entrepreneur, our Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak merged in one, who also happens to be running into a lovely lady every now and then. And what a resume; first he reinvented the way we do online payments with PayPal, he then became a major disruptor in the car industry with his electric Tesla’s, and now he’s aiming for Mars with his SpaceX rockets. And the guy is just 46 years old.
Last week he again captured our imagination with the launch of his Falcon Heavy. Check the amazing video above with Elon’s reaction. For those who’ve missed it, here’s some background info;
“The Falcon Heavy is the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two. With the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (a mass greater than a 737 jetliner), Falcon Heavy can lift more than twice the payload of the next closest operational vehicle.”
And if that isn’t enough, check this out:
“Its first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores whose 27 Merlin engines together generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at lift-off, equal to approximately eighteen 747 aircraft. Only the Saturn V moon rocket, last flown in 1973, delivered more payload to orbit.”
To be honest, we have no idea what it actually means, but it sounds awesome, especially when you realise that the Falcon Heavy is designed with the goal to one-day carry humans into space and restore the possibility of flying missions with a crew to the Moon or Mars.
Yes, Elon is taking us to Mars, and when you hear the man speak, you actually believe he will actually do it one day. This is how people must have felt when they heard Kennedy’s moon speech in 1962. For now, we are left with our imagination and these spectacular pictures of the launch, the landing of the booster rockets and Tesla Roadster in space.
But lest we forget, it didn’t come easy for Musk. Check out the 2012 interview below.
