    Sweden: Afghan migrant videotapes gang rape, sentenced to juvenile detention and 10-year expulsion

    A 17-year-old Afghan asylum seeker in Sweden has yesterday been convicted to ten months in juvenile detention plus temporary deportation for gang raping a mildly mentally challenged girl with a 14-year-old accomplice, during mid-January in Arlöv, near the city of Malmö. The victim, who is below the age of eighteen, was also filmed and threatened by the two assailants.

    And so it begins: the Brexit negotiations

    At 11:00 BST today, day one of the Brexit negotiations will lift off at the European Commission buildings in Brussels. Subjects for the negotiations include the status of expats, the UK’s “divorce bill” and the Northern Ireland border. Brexit Secretary David Davis will call for “a deal like no other in history,” and sources say the talks will follow the EU’s preferred pattern of exit negotiations first, with the future relations between the two sides – including the free trade deal the UK is seeking – at a later date.

    Austrian police responds to accusations of covering up sexual assaults

    The police in the Austrian town of Linz has responded to accusations of covering up sex crimes. It claims that the security services cannot go public with rapes because of the need to protect the victims. The press release is in response to accusations levelled in the weekend, as news of two sexual assaults has surfaced.
